Meet the members of our Undergraduate Curriculum Advisory Board

The Undergraduate Curriculum Advisory Board (UCAB) provides external and strategic advice to support the quality, relevance, and continuous improvement of the undergraduate Chemical Engineering program. Each board member has expertise in their field and can provide advice on aligning the curriculum content with current and emerging engineering practice, industry needs, and societal priorities.

Baoling Chen

Dr. Baoling Chen, P.Eng., PMP, recipient of the University of Waterloo Engineering Alumni Achievement Medal, is a chemical engineer, entrepreneur, and senior innovation leader with a diverse background spanning industry, academia and the non-profit sector. Dr. Chen has held leadership roles across engineering, bio-manufacturing, clean technology, and applied research organizations, driving entrepreneurship, commercialization, and strategic partnerships to translate advanced technology into real-world impact. Dr. Chen has also contributed to post-secondary education through teaching and mentorship, and brings a strong industry and entrepreneurial perspective to curriculum and program development.

Neha Dhar

Neha brings over 14 years of experience across the Food & Beverage sector, with deep expertise spanning manufacturing operations, global supply chain, and business process improvement. She is known for her inspirational and people-focused leadership, having built and mentored high-performing teams across quality management, industrial engineering, and supply chain operations.

Neha has a strong track record of driving operational excellence through automation, digitalization, and structured continuous improvement. Most recently at Amazon Canada, she played a key role in launching Canada’s first hybrid non-sortable fulfillment center, while leading initiatives that significantly improved warehouse productivity, inventory accuracy, and network performance.

She holds a Master of Applied Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of Waterloo, where she remains actively involved as a volunteer, contributing to the development of future leaders. Outside of work, Neha is passionate about health and wellness and enjoys bringing people together through community-building initiatives. She also enjoys traveling with her family, including her two young daughters.

Jodi Menezes

Jodi Menezes joins us with a decade of experience in emerging technologies in the medical device industry, spanning sales, supply chain, engineering, and quality. Her multi-disciplinary understanding of business lends itself favourably to developing unique product strategies that differentiate itself from the competition and drive market expansion.

Her mission to shape the future is rooted in her passion to give back to her community and create long-lasting impact over generations.

John Cotton

John is a Senior Engineer in the eGrid Hybrid Power and Energy Storage group at Hatch. At Hatch his work focuses on integrating energy storage technologies into the utility grid or to pair with renewable power energy resources. These beneficial technologies assist with the reduction in need to use fossil fuel energy sources and assist in getting to zero emissions. He is an experienced Project Manager working in the green energy and renewables industry for several years across different companies. He has led various green energy storage development and integration projects, for a variety of different applications, utilizing project management techniques to plan, execute, and complete projects for Hatch and previous companies.

John holds a Master of Applied Science degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Waterloo. He has published 4 peer-reviewed journal articles.

Steven Zhang

Steven is an asset-based Chemical Engineering Manager with over 10 years of experience in gas/hydrotreating, mineral extraction processes, and automation within the oil sands sector.  He is currently leading the Upgrading Process Engineering team at Suncor Energy. Steven holds a BASc in Chemical Engineering from the University of Waterloo and an MBA in Energy, Environment, and Natural Resources from the University of Alberta.
