To receive the Graduate Specialization in Sustainable Energy and Materials, students must successfully complete 3 compulsory courses, 1 elective course, and 4 additional courses:
- Compulsory courses:
  - CHE 571 Industrial Ecology
  - SUSM 620 Sustainable Operations
  - SUSM 665 Life Cycle Assessment
- Elective courses (choose 1 from the following list):
  - CHE 516 Energy Systems Engineering
  - CHE 572 Air Pollution Control
  - CHE 574 Industrial Wastewater Pollution Control
- Of the 4 additional courses, no more than 2 may be from outside CHE
