Dr. Scott Walbridge has been selected as the new chair of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Waterloo.
Walbridge, who will take over from outgoing chair Dr. Carl Haas, begins a four-year term Nov. 1.

Currently the director of the architectural engineering program, Walbridge’s research investigates the fatigue of steel and aluminum welded connections, performance of steel and aluminum mechanical connections, vibration of aluminum pedestrian bridges and stability of aluminum structures.
The appointment was announced by Dean Mary Wells, who thanked Haas for his “outstanding leadership” as chair over the past four years. Haas will work closely with Walbridge during the fall term to ensure a smooth transition.
