Professor Neil Robertson (PhD, University of Waterloo, 1969, supervisor: Professor William Tutte) has been awarded the 2002 Alumni Achievement Medal. This new alumni achievement medal is awarded annually to Alumni of the Faculty of Mathematics for outstanding accomplishments in professional, business, or community life.
Alexander (Lex) Schrijver, of CWI, Amsterdam and the University of Amsterdam, was awarded an honorary degree at the June 2002 convocation at the University of Waterloo. Professor Schrijver is one of the world's leading researchers in discrete optimization, as well as the subject's foremost scholar.
Professor Ron Mullin, of the Department of Combinatorics and Optimization, recently received an honorary doctorate from Universitat Rostock. Professor Mullin received his PhD from Waterloo in 1964 and became a Professor in Combinatorics and Optimization in 1969. Professor Mullin became a distinguished professor emeritus in 1996.
Two Combinatorics and Optimization students, John Irving and Richard Hoshino, recently received "Distinguished Teaching by a Registered Student Awards".
