Professor Jochen Könemann, together with András Frank (Eötvös Loránd University), Satoru Iwata (Kyto University) and Jens Vygen (University of Bonn), have received a Euros 320,000 grant to organize a Haudsorff trimester program in Combinatorial Optimizatio

127 mathematicians from around the world gathered at the University of Waterloo from June 23-27 2014 to participate in the conference "Algebraic Combinatorics: Spectral Graph Theory, Erdos-Ko-Rado Theorems and Quantum Information theory". The conference was in celebration of Chris Godsil's work (and also his 65th birthday).

Marcel de Carli Silva was awarded an Outstanding Achievement in Graduate Studies honour at the spring 2014 convocation. This award is presented to one PhD student and one MMath student at each of the spring and fall convocations. Previous recipients of the award include Mathieu Guay-Paquet (PhD, C&O, spring 2013) and Peter Nelson (PhD, C&O spring 2012).

On May 1 2014, Frank Sottile began a four-year term as Adjunct Professor in the Department of Combinatorics and Optimization (C&O). Frank is a professor in the Department of Mathematics at Texas A&M University.
