We acknowledge that we live and work on the traditional territory of the Neutral, Anishinaabeg and Haudenosaunee peoples. The University of Waterloo is situated on the Haldimand Tract, the land promised to the Six Nations that includes six miles on each side of the Grand River.
Better Bail For America (BB4A), a team of four fourth-year Mechanical and Mechatronics engineering students, competed in and won the Hult Prize Regional Finals in Mexico in March 2019.
This team is focusing on improving the criminal justice system in the United States. They aim to help prevent youth unemployment in the USA by enabling young, employed, first-time offenders to access crowdfunded, interest-free bail.
"Hult Prize has been one of the most rewarding and humbling experiences during our time at the University of Waterloo. We have had a memorable weekend competing at the Mexico City Regional, pitching alongside some extremely talented individuals with world-changing ideas. It is deeply humbling to have been selected to attend the Hult Prize Accelerator."
The four members of the team; Rares T. Gosman, Devon Copeland, Mitchell Catoen, and David Ferris also took the time in Mexico to express their thanks to Conrad School.
"We would like to thank the Conrad School of Business for their mentorship and funding, and give a particularly large thank you to Roopa Reddy for her contagious enthusiasm and unwavering support. Best of luck to the other Waterloo teams competing around the world this year - we hope your experience is as positive as ours was."
