New Faculty Announcement — Welcome Sharlene He

Monday, October 7, 2024

The Conrad School of Entrepreneurship and Business would like to welcome our newest faculty member, Sharlene He!

Sharlene brings a wealth of knowledge in consumer behaviour, with focus on judgement and decision-making in uncertain and ambiguous environments. Her research also examines consumer responses to new technologies like AI and algorithms, as well as customer willingness-to-pay and pricing strategies. She has developed innovative methods for measuring willingness-to-pay and assessing customer uncertainty in natural language data, providing valuable insights for entrepreneurs and business leaders alike. Her work has been featured in leading marketing journals.

Sharlene received her PhD in Marketing from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management. She also holds an MA in Economics from the University of Toronto and a Bachelor of Commerce from Queen's University. Before joining the Conrad School, she was a marketing professor for six years at the John Molson School of Business, Concordia University.

Her teaching approach—informed by her experience as a management consultant and her time at the Kellogg School—focuses on the development of transferable skills. She believes that “business is fundamentally about problem-solving in situations of uncertainty and complexity, and we are often confronted with either too little information or too much conflicting information.” Her goal is to equip students with the skills and tools they need to find the best solution or course of action in these situations.

With an award-winning academic background, including the 2023 Dean’s Award for Distinguished Scholarship, Sharlene will be teaching courses such as BET 602, BET 400, and BE 604.

“The Conrad School is filled with outstanding people who are very innovative in terms of both teaching and research, and I look forward to working with them and making a positive impact with them. I also look forward to working with and mentoring the enthusiastic and entrepreneurial students here—I am excited to teach them about marketing and see how their careers and founder’s journeys unfold.”
