The Conrad School of Entrepreneurship and Business is proud to announce that Professor Sharlene He has been awarded a 2025 Insight Development Grant from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) for her project, “The Psychology of Innovation with Generative AI: Understanding Human Ideation Processes.”

This timely research explores how generative AI tools affect human creativity, contributing to the evolving discourse around artificial intelligence and innovation. By investigating the cognitive and motivational processes involved in ideation when humans collaborate with AI systems, Professor He’s work will examine the psychological foundations of creativity in the digital age.

The SSHRC Insight Development Grant supports early-stage research and fosters new approaches to complex social and human issues.

“Individuals and organizations are using GenAI to generate ideas all the time, but we are only starting to grasp the implications," say Professor He. "By better understanding how people think and create alongside generative AI, we can design processes that truly support innovative thinking rather than replace it."

Professor He’s work will contribute to academic research as well as practical applications in education, organizational innovation, and the development of ethical, human-centred AI systems.

Congratulations to Professor He on being awarded this research grant!
