Biography

Dr. Holt teaches consulting, strategy and entrepreneurship courses to undergraduate, master's and PhD students from across the University.

Prior to this, he was a management consultant at firms ranging from the Big 4 to an IT services company to a boutique strategy consultancy. He has also served as an executive in the global investment management business and an entrepreneur in the financial and media sectors. He is currently a board member of the Canadian Council for Small Business and Entrepreneurship (CCSBE) and the Canadian Association of Management Consultants - Ontario Council (CMC-Canada). He is a member of the editorial boards of the Management Consulting Journal and the Journal of Small Business and Entrepreneurship and was named one of seven Academic Fellows of the International Council of Management Consulting Institutes (ICMCI) in 2024.

Over his wide-ranging career, Chris has also served as a consultant to the Boston-based Global Absolute Return Congress, the Geneva-based World Economic Forum and the World Bank in Washington DC. He has been the editor of a trade journal covering global geopolitics and capital markets, a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Alternative Investments, and a speaker at approximately 100 conferences in 11 countries where he has interviewed over a dozen Nobel laureates and prime ministers.

He holds a PhD from the University of Toronto, an MBA from Duke University and a BCom from Queen’s University. Chris is a past president of the Duke Clubs of Canada and was recognized by Duke University with its high award for alumni service in 2005.
