Environment and Business top student 2016
Earning a final average of 89.9%, Environment and Business’ top student in 2016 Kristopher Kolenc genuinely enjoyed his studies. For his 4th year capstone project, his team worked with Oxford Properties, a global real estate investment and development company, to determine best practices for sustainability engagement of its 3,300 shopping centre tenants across Canada.
An “all around achiever” according to his professors, Kristopher made the Dean’s Honour List all eight academic terms while also being very active on campus and in the community. Some of his many achievements and activities include:
- Developing an ISO 14001:2004 environmental management process that improved the safety and environmental performance of two of Cadbury’s largest Canadian manufacturing plants during a co-op term
- Mentoring first-year Environment students as a Peer Leader at St. Paul’s University College
- Serving as the Environment Students’ Society’s Communications Director
- Volunteering in groups across campus, including UW Aquatics, Sustainable Campus Initiative, Orientation Week and Feds President’s Sustainability Advisory Committee
Kristopher’s advice to new students is to focus on studies, but to also make room for other activities and build a strong support network.
