Team: University of Waterloo
About The Team
- Presented by Yusof Ghiasi, 1st year Geography and Environmental Management graduate student.
- The environmental problem that Team University of Waterloo addresses are the manual methods used for measuring soil water content over small and medium-sized farmlands. These practices are both labour intensive and time-consuming.
- University of Waterloo’s proposed solution is to use reflected GPS signals to study the reflectivity of the soil to retrieve soil water content values. The hope is that GPS-Reflectometry will become an affordable alternative for huge-cost soil moisture monitoring systems currently applied at farmlands.
