"In a darkened space, five tall white rectangular boxes float on the wall—modest counterparts to the marble-clad columns in the building’s lobby. A word that traces the stages of a human life is lit up near the top of each unit: beginning, becoming, believing, belonging, bequeathing. Glowing bands of light illuminate the words from behind.

Valleyhome Books has published two new volumes of papers by Distinguished Professor Emerita Nancy-Lou Patterson on the subject of detective fiction and science fiction and fantasy. The volumes are part of a series co-edited by Emily E. Auger and Janet Brennan Croft.

The Draw to Perform (D2P) residency program for Drawing Performance practice is headed by Fine Arts alumnus Ram Samocha (MFA 2009).  The D2P Residency program, located in the heart of Brighton UK, is a unique opportunity for new and developing professional artists and art students to engage in the dynamic artistic discipline of drawing performance art.

Natalie Hunter's (MFA 2013 and Fine Arts sessional instructor) exhibition Staring into the sun runs from January 25 to April 28, 2019 at Rodman Hall Art Centre, Brock University, St. Catharines.  The opening reception is Thursday, January 31 at 7:00 pm.

Fine Arts MFA student Brubey Hu is one of the finalists chosen from hundreds of applicants for this year’s UNTAPPED Emerging Artists Competition.  These finalists will each be given a free booth to showcase their work at this year’s Artist Project Contemporary Art Fair.

Nancy-Lou Patterson, founder of the Department of Fine Arts at the University of Waterloo, has died. It has been a while since she was able to visit, but this Department literally wouldn’t be here without her initiative, imagination, leadership, and service. I hope many others will share their stories of her life, but here is a small celebration of her teaching.

Recent MFA graduate Eryn O'Neill received the Kevin J. Batchelor Emerging Artist Award at the Orillia Museum's Carmichael Canadian Landscape Exhibition.

It is with great sadness that we announce that Serena Lawrence (BA Fine Arts Honours 2012) passed away at St. Joseph's Hospital in Hamilton on Wednesday, September 26, 2018. Serena was an exemplary student, a lovely person and a talented artist, but most importantly she was very brave as she battled pulmonary arterial hypertension.
