Excellent results for GEM in the QS World University Rankings

The Department of Geography and Environmental Management has been ranked amongst the world’s elite Geography programs, placing in the top 100 of the QS World University Rankings.

Geography is one of 18 subject areas in which the University of Waterloo ranked amongst the world’s elite (top 200). The University of Waterloo ranked in the top 50 for three subject areas; Computer Science, Mathematics, and Statistics and Operational Research. The University was ranked amongst the top 100 in four additional subject areas; Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Environmental Science, and Geography. This successful ranking for Geography and Environmental Management is a reflection of the department’s tremendous growth over the past seven years. The department has launched new undergraduate programs in Geomatics and Geography and Aviation, along with a new Masters in Climate Change program that begins in the fall of 2013. Faculty members within GEM have active research programs within each of the department’s areas of specialization; Earth Systems Science, Geomatics, and Development and Environment. The department is affiliated with numerous research centers and academic institutions, both within the University of Waterloo and around the world.
