Entanglement is a type of resource used in quantum information theory that gives correlations that cannot be simulated using classical probability theory. It is known that entanglement cannot be created locally.
In this talk, I will introduce ways to generate entanglement "out of thin air" by using a slightly different mathematical model for locality from the typically used tensor-product model — the commuting operator model. In infinite dimensional Hilbert spaces, the commuting operator model allows us to perfectly "embezzle" a pair of entangled qubits, a task that is only approximable but not achievable under the tensor product framework.
