Administrative history:  Seniors for Peace grew out of a Christian Peacemaker Teams conference that Atlee Beachy attended in 1986 in Goshen, Indiana. He was instrumental in starting a local group whose purpose was to deepen peace awareness among seniors and increase peace witness through various methods.

Ontario Seniors for Peace had its beginnings in 1988 when Atlee Beachy introduced the idea to seniors at Erb Street Mennonite Church in Waterloo. Key members included Joe and Elsie Nighswander, Fred and Lorrie Snyder, Gordon and Tillie Hunsberger, and Harold Schlegel. The group had ties to Mennonite Central Committee Ontario's Peace and Social Concerns Committee. Meeting minutes and letters were exchanged between the Peace and Social Concerns Committee and Seniors for Peace. Members of each committee also attended each others' meetings.

Custodial history: The Seniors for Peace fonds came to the Archives as a donation from J.M.Nighswander. Over time, small amounts of materials have been transferred from other fonds.

Scope and content: The fonds consists of meeting minutes, meeting agendas, and correspondence relating to the general operation of the organization.Most of the contents of the fonds deal with the Ontario chapter of the organization.
