To mark National Postdoc Appreciation Week (September 21 – 25), WOVS is pleased to recognize our postdoctoral fellows.

Andy Silva leads two major projects. The first involves the exploration of novel techniques to improve vision in older adults with macular degeneration (loss of central vision). The second involves the development of new eye imaging technologies using techniques from quantum physics. His supervisor is Dr Ben Thompson, who notes that "Andy moved to Waterloo from California, is a musician and is a source of support and advice for all lab members."

Dr Thompson also supervises Anoop Thazhathumanackal Radhakrishnan, who is developing new technologies for monitoring and controlling adherence to digital therapies in the home. "Anoop is a valued member of the laboratory and, as an engineer, provides a link between vision science and systems engineering. Anoop moved to Waterloo from India and was recently joined by his family," Dr. Thompson says.

Faryan Tayyari is a postdoctoral research fellow working on the Ontario Neurodegenerative Disease Research Initiative (ONDRI). Dr Tayyari is based in the Kensington Eye Institute, Toronto where she is centrally involved in all aspects of the ONDRI image hub and Hudson Lab.

"Faryan is conscientious, intelligent, multi-skilled, positive-minded, team orientated and hard-working," says her supervisor, Dr Chris Hudson. "She is well-liked by her colleagues and she has a very amiable character. It is a pleasure to work with Faryan. All her co-workers wish Faryan a happy and successful National Postdoc Appreciation Week." Dr Hudson says.
