UWOVS invites Canadian optometrists to participate in two ongoing survey studies of interest. Please note both studies have been reviewed and received ethics clearance through a University of Waterloo Research Ethics Board.

“An international survey of the optometric management of stroke survivors”

UWOVS' Drs. Susan Leat, Tammy Labreche and Amritha Stalin are undertaking an online survey designed to evaluate the Knowledge, Attitude, and Practices (KAP) of optometrists in Canada, Hong Kong, India, UK, and US regarding the assessment and intervention of stroke survivors. Responses will help to evaluate the current understanding of practicing optometrists regarding post-stroke visual difficulties and optometrists’ involvement in the assessment and intervention of stroke survivors, with the ultimate goal of improving visual care and quality of life in this population. Optometrists are encouraged to respond whether or not they see many post-stroke patients. The survey takes no more than 15 minutes to complete.

Optometric vision care in the pediatric population

UWOVS' Drs. Susan Leat, Kalpana Rose, Lisa Christian, Beth Irving, Debbie Jones and Daphne McCulloch are undertaking an online survey designed to investigate the recommendations regarding first eye exams by optometrists and the provision of that care.

This survey will help the team understand why many children are not presenting for eye examinations at an early age, create awareness of the current status of pediatric optometry practice patterns and provide understanding of potential barriers and gaps, with the ultimate goal of improving access to pediatric eye care in future. The survey takes about 10 to 15 minutes to complete and your responses are anonymous.
