Yara Mohair presenting at the Faculty of Science heat of the 2020 3 Minute Theis (3MT)
Congratulations to Waterloo Optometry & Vision Science (WOVS) graduate student Yara Mohiar who placed first in the Faculty of Science heat of the 3 Minute Thesis (3MT) competition!

Yara Mohiar is an MSc student, working with Professor Elizabeth Irving. She was awarded both first place and Audience Choice for her presentation titled “The pressures of space exploration”.

Yara is conducting research into the effects of long-term space travel on the optic nerve. By simulating the fluid shifts that occur in the human body in space, and comparing the effects on blood pressure and eye pressure, her research may help to prevent eye damage in future space travellers.

Both Yara and the second-place contestant, Biology graduate student Isabel Hilgendag, will represent the Faculty of Science moving forward in the University-wide level 3MT competition, scheduled for March 26 at 3:00pm in Modern Languages, Theatre of the Arts.
