Flipping the script from classroom to clinic

Ayesha Amanullah (Rx2027), a third-year PharmD student, shares how she used co-op to explore many different pharmacy opportunities available to students. She reflects on how she developed a deeper understanding of the profession through her co-op work terms in a specialty pharmacy at Rx Connect, hospital pharmacy at Waterloo Regional Health Network (WRHN) and pharmacy operations at Whole Health Pharmacy Partners.

“Pharmacy school teaches you how to be a pharmacist. Co-op taught me how pharmacy works. Those are two very different things,” Amanullah says. “More than any clinical skill, I think the most important thing I’ve gained is a deeper sense of empathy.”
