FocusONCare, a mobile healthcare start-up created by six pharmacy students from UWaterloo’s School of Pharmacy won the fourth place prize, including a Samsung Chromebook at Thursday’s pitch competition for the Women Entrepreneurs Bootcamp in the Communitech Hub.
Communitech and Google for Entrepreneurs sponsored the Women Entrepreneurs Bootcamp, and a total of 22 startups with 25 women participated in the event.
Aiming to improve the quality of treatment for cancer patients, FocusONCare has developed a revolutionary app, “ChemoTracker” that can track patients side effects and help them and their families know what to do in both common and critical situations related to cancer treatments.
This is not the group’s first major competition however. They previously won $15,000 from the Scotiabank Pharmacy Entrepreneurship Competition last September as well as $1000 for best pitch at a Velocity Competition last spring.
