This week, alumna Marisa Ramandt (Rx2015) received the Commitment to Care & Service Student Leadership Award in Toronto. This award recognizes her strong academic performance and leadership skills with pharmacy-related organizations and professional activities.
This is the second time a Waterloo Pharmacy student has won the prestigious award in the last three years as alumna Danielle Paes won in 2013.
Marisa has made significant contributions as a student at the School of Pharmacy and has been actively involved in promoting professional activities for students at the School. She is a very deserving recipient of this award.
Ramandt’s enthusiasm and passion for her profession is evident in everything she does. She continually goes above and beyond what is required of her.
She is part of a national association for pharmacy students and attends meetings with the Ontario Pharmacists Association. On campus, Ramandt is editor of the yearbook and was elected chair of the 2015 Graduation Committee while still maintaining her academic standing on the Dean’s Honour List.
Ramandt is actively involved in the local community. She worked with Community Action Now, a student group that fundraises and implements projects in support of vulnerable populations in Waterloo Region. She also gave talks at the local Parkinson’s disease patient support group.
A pharmacist and award nominator said, “[I saw] a passion to empower patients to better health that I had never seen from a student before. Marisa leads without even knowing she is doing it. She was a remarkable asset to our local community.”
Ramandt is dedicated to improving the health of others and will continue to be a champion for her profession through her role as a practicing pharmacist.
I am determined to help lead the way as our profession continues to evolve. There has never been a more exciting time to be a pharmacist!
In 2012, the Ontario government announced an expanded scope of practice for pharmacists in the province that takes advantage of their advanced training as medication therapy experts and their position as the most accessible health care providers in the community.
The Commitment to Care & Service Awards is an annual, national program hosted by Canada’s leading professional journal for pharmacists, Pharmacy Practice+. The CCSA for Student Leadership is sponsored by Ontario Pharmacists Association and Loblaw Pharmacy.
