Volunteers from the School of Pharmacy team created larger-than-life pill vial, symbolic of the important role pharmacists play in counselling patients on their medications. The vial also hints at the diverse services available from pharmacists, such as medication checks for patients taking many medications.

Coinciding with Pharmacist Awareness Month, the CanBuild structure also serves an excellent opportunity to spread awareness about the role pharmacists can play in counselling patients on lifestyle changes and nutritional adjustments that can help combat diabetes and obesity.

“Rx for Success” represents collaborative fundraising efforts between students in UW CAPSI (the University of Waterloo chapter of the Canadian Association of Pharmacy Students and Interns), Community Action Now, and faculty and staff. Organized by CanBuild lead Morgan Phillips, Jr CAPSI Rep Monique Eisa, and Pharmacist Awareness Month Chair Heidi Fernandes, students fundraised money through Valentine’s Day candy grams and collected donations at events.

Donations support the Federation of Students Food Bank and the Food Bank of Waterloo Region. To view other University of Waterloo CanBuild structures, visit the Community Relations Blog.
