The White Coat Ceremony is a staple of health care education programs across the country. New students are welcomed by practitioners of their chosen profession and are helped into white coats for the first time. This year, Waterloo Pharmacy’s white coat ceremony moved online, and the newest class of pharmacy students, Rx2024, was welcomed virtually.

Waterloo Pharmacy faculty share what the white coat means to them

As members of a program that trains health care students, Rx2024 is completing a limited number of lab-based classes in person, following public health safety guidelines. The bulk of their education takes place online. These students received their white coats on their first day of lab, instead of at the white coat ceremony.

Last night, Rx2024 were celebrated by representatives from the school, pharmacy organizations, and alumni and student leaders in front of 300 virtual attendees.
