WATERLOO, Ont. (Wednesday, August 20, 2014) — Drs Colleen Maxwell and Kelly Grindrod, from the School of Pharmacy in the Faculty of Science, were two of five UWaterloo researchers awarded CIHR funding.

Dr. Colleen Maxwell is investigating frailty, medication use and related health outcomes for older adults receiving home care and long-term care services across Ontario. Her three-year Operating Grant totals more than $330,000 and brings together an interdisciplinary team of researchers, clinicians, and policy makers. The project will focus on developing measures to predict those most at risk for sub-optimal medication use and poor health outcomes.

Dr. Kelly Grindrod aims to use the $10,000 Planning and Dissemination Grant she received to meet with national and international experts, researchers and stakeholders to plan a future research strategy concerning electronic health records (EHRs). Grindrod and her team aim to advance knowledge of how the EHRs should be aligned with the changing care model to ensure the data can be used and understood by all care providers.

Professors Heather Keller, Suzanna Tyas and Sharon Kirkpatrick, from the Faculty of Applied Health Sciences, also received CIHR grants.
