Waterloo Pharmacy welcomes future pharmacists at the Spring 2025 Open House

This past weekend the University of Waterloo opened its doors to prospective students for the Spring 2025 Open House. At the School of Pharmacy Kitchener Campus we welcomed over 150 future PharmD students and their families. They joined a presentation to hear about Canada's only PharmD co-op program, asked questions about the PharmD program and the pharmacy profession and toured the building. Waterloo Pharmacy was also on main campus connecting with many excited future pharmacists and answering their questions at the Faculty of Science Open House.

"Connecting with future pharmacists at the Open House events is inspiring. It provides opportunity to share clinical experiences, answer questions and motivate those that share a similar passion for health care to pursue their pharmacy education at the University of Waterloo," Katie Dunn says, Rx2025 Waterloo Pharmacy student ambassador.

"For me, care with confidence is a commitment to providing exceptional patient care, grounded in the therapeutic knowledge acquired through 72 weeks of clinical experience in the PharmD program. Its about building strong, trusting relationships with patients, ensuring they feel supported and confident in their care."

From the building’s history to lab tours, attendees learned what makes Waterloo Pharmacy unique and what a future education will have in store. Current students ran the tours and answered questions ranging from program requirements to what a typical day as a Waterloo Pharmacy student looks like.

"As a Conditional Admission to Pharmacy (CAP) 2020 student, my interest in pharmacy started relatively early and being in this program allowed me to continuously network and explore the profession. I initially was drawn to this program as Waterloo is home to the only pharmacy co-op program in Canada, allowing students to exercise transferable skills by applying classroom knowledge to patient care," says Jiny Kim, R2026 Waterloo Pharmacy student ambassador.

"At the open house, it was inspiring to see such bright individuals with such a keen passion for this profession. I hope to be a mentor to these students, as I know I wouldn't be where I am in this journey without the support and guidance of my peers and practicing pharmacists."

Thank you to all our student ambassadors who volunteered their time to help make these events a success! Our Open House would not be the same without your passion and dedication. To all those who were able to attend, thank you for visiting us. We hope to see you again in the future.
