Waterloo Pharmacy welcomes future pharmacists at the Spring 2026 Open House
On March 28, 2026 the University of Waterloo opened its doors to prospective students for the Spring 2026 Open House. At the School of Pharmacy Health Sciences Kitchener Campus we welcomed more than 200 future PharmD students and their families. They joined a presentation to hear about Canada's only PharmD co-op program, asked questions about the PharmD program and the pharmacy profession and toured the building. Waterloo Pharmacy was also on main campus connecting with many excited future pharmacists and answering their questions at the Faculty of Science Open House.
“Speaking with prospective students at Open House was a meaningful full‑circle moment for me,” says Anchanah Jeyamohan, Rx2026 Waterloo Pharmacy student ambassador. “I remember being in their shoes six years ago, so it was rewarding to share my experiences and talk about the diversity of the pharmacy profession. The School’s co‑op program sets students up for success and has plenty of opportunities for professional development that has really encouraged me to get involved.”
From the building’s history to lab tours, attendees learned what makes Waterloo Pharmacy unique and what a future education will have in store. Current students ran the tours and answered questions ranging from program requirements to what a typical day as a Waterloo Pharmacy student looks like.
“When people hear the word pharmacy, medications are often the first thing that come to mind. At March Open House, I aimed to gently challenge that idea by sharing with prospective CAP and pharmacy students that pharmacy is a growing, innovative profession with opportunities that extend far beyond what many initially imagine,” says Pierre Wadeie, Rx2026 Waterloo Pharmacy student ambassador.
“I spoke about my own experiences in pharmacy, including presenting a startup pitch in a Pharmasave competition for my entrepreneurship elective and being involved in research with Dr. Jeff Nagge advocating for pharmacist-led INR point-of-care clinics. Through building tours and conversations with students and families, I hoped to show that pharmacy is not only about medications, but also about leadership, research, innovation, and finding new ways to improve patient care.”
Thank you to all our student ambassadors who volunteered their time to help make these events a success! Our Open House would not be the same without your passion and dedication. To all those who were able to attend, thank you for visiting us. We hope to see you again in the future.
