Growing up on a reserve, Amanda Michano’s (PharmD ’22) dream of working in health care was sparked by a visit from a pharmacist.

“I was in awe of the pharmacist who came to help me understand how to use my inhaler for my asthma,” says Michano. “It was in that moment that I knew I wanted to help teach people how to use their medication.”

As this year’s recipient of the McNaught-Taillon Leadership Award, Vivek Goel, president and vice-chancellor of the University of Waterloo, is being recognized for his outstanding individual contributions to Canadian health care through exemplary leadership and mentorship in the advancement of health policy, health information and health informatics. 

Rui Su (PharmD’18) is the 2021 School of Pharmacy Alumni Achievement Award recipient. She received the award virtually at our recent CE Saturday event. This award recognizes and celebrates pharmacy alumni who impact the health and well-being of society through professional work and/or public service contribution. Her contributions echo through community pharmacies across Canada.

Alex Wong (Rx2020) is part of the team at the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario, CHEO, a pediatric health-care and research centre in Ottawa, who won the 2022 Excellence in Pharmacy Practice Leadership Award in partnership with Canadian Blood Services. The award is presented from the Canadian Society of Hospital Pharmacists (CSHP) and acknowledges projects that serve a greater cause and contribute to pharmacy care.
