Stacey D'Angelo, Rx 2012

Reflections on the Program

My varied co-op experiences provided valuable insight into different sectors of the profession which I wouldn't likely have had otherwise.

Stacey D’Angelo, member of Waterloo's class of 2012, currently resides in Windsor, ON.

Where They're Working

She works as a consultant pharmacist with Remedy’s Rx Specialty Pharmacy (long-term care) as well as part-time at an independent community pharmacy.

She also participated on the Expanding Professional Pharmacy Services (EPPS) working group which helped lay the found work for current pharmacy services reimbursed in Ontario, such as pharmaceutical opinion and smoking cessation.

Alumni Answers

UW: Why did you want to become a member of the OPA Board of Directors?

SD: Being elected as a student board member from the University of Waterloo in 2009 was a career-changing experience. As a previous board member, I understand the responsibilities and work involved in taking on this role. In my first year as an observer, I was able to learn the ropes and recognize the importance of a professional advocacy body in the role of health policy.

Over the following years working with OPA, as a director and committee member, I had the opportunity to meet some great individuals and mentors who truly inspired me to appreciate and enjoy this work. As a recent graduate with experience in a wide variety of practice settings (retail – corporate & independent, hospital, and long-term care), I hope I can offer an unique perspective to the board table.

UW: What advice do you have for students currently enrolled in the Pharmacy program?

SD: My experiences as a pharmacy student at uWaterloo led me to run for this position... Extracurricular activities (working with Ontario Pharmacy Association and Society of Pharmacy Students) inspired a passion for professional advocacy and health policy, and my varied co-op experiences provided valuable insight into different sectors of the profession which I wouldn't likely have had otherwise. I would encourage students to get involved - you never know where the path might lead you!
