Azita Darabian was a pharmacist and an avid runner. She was passionate about her work in community pharmacy in BC. Her family created this award in her memory to recognize exceptional students and encourage them to actively engage in their community as they pursue their pharmacy education.
An award, valued at up to $6,000, will be provided annually to a full-time undergraduate student entering Year One in the School of Pharmacy .
The selected student will receive $3,000 in Year One. To be considered for the remaining $3,000, the recipient will have achieved a 75% cumulative average in Year One and be asked to provide a letter by October 1 of their 2A term, outlining their extracurricular involvement within the School of Pharmacy and how they achieved their goals as set out in their original application.
Eligibility & Selection
- full-time undergraduate students entering Year One of the PharmD program in the School of Pharmacy
- restricted to candidates who have demonstrated financial need as assessed through the UW Full-time Bursary program
- candidates must have a minimum admission average of 80% and demonstrated extracurricular involvement and/or volunteer activities in the community
- selection is based on an application that includes a two-page letter discussing the candidate’s current extracurricular activities and their goals of continuing these activities, as well as how they intend on becoming involved in other activities within the School of Pharmacy
- the selected student will receive $3,000 in the 1A term
- in order to be eligible for the second instalment of $3,000, the recipient must have an average of 75% and demonstrate that they have been involved in extracurricular activities during their first year at Waterloo
- eligible students will be sent an application by the Student Awards & Financial Aid Office by November 16

- Demonstrated passion for and involvement in extracurricular activities
- Articulated interest in becoming involved in activities within the School and local community during their time in the pharmacy program.
Entrance awards are exceptionally important to our students, especially awards that value engagement beyond the curriculum and with our community.
