Biography

Brett Barrett is a Consultant Pharmacist who specializes in the management of infection. She has been a member of the University of Waterloo School of Pharmacy since 2011, serving as Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor until assuming the role of Clinical Lecturer in 2019. In addition to administering the infectious disease curriculum, Professor Barrett is responsible for ensuring graduates have the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in institutional pharmacy settings.

Professor Barrett maintains a clinical practice at Grand River Hospital where she supports the Antimicrobial Stewardship and Infectious Disease Programs. In her practice, she seeks to optimize the use of antimicrobials to achieve best patient outcomes, reduce risk of infections, and reduce levels of antibiotic resistance. In addition, Professor Barrett is dedicated to the education and empowerment of hospital- and community-based patients and healthcare providers regarding the safe and appropriate use of antimicrobials.
