Biography

Dr. Vivek Goel is a physician and public health expert whose work spans health systems, population health, and the application of data and evidence to improve outcomes. He is President Emeritus of the University of Waterloo, where he holds an appointment jointly between the School of Pharmacy and the School of Public Health Sciences.

Prior to Waterloo, Dr. Goel held senior academic and leadership roles at the University of Toronto, including Vice-President and Provost, and Vice-President, Research and Innovation. He is Professor Emeritus in the Institute for Health Policy, Management and Evaluation and the Dalla Lana School of Public Health at the University of Toronto.

He served as founding President of Public Health Ontario, where he helped build capacity for evidence-informed public health practice. He was a Founding Scientist at the Institute for Clinical Evaluative Sciences (IC/ES).

Throughout his career, he has contributed to shaping health policy and advancing the use of data, analytics, and digital tools in health systems. At Waterloo, Dr. Goel’s academic work continues to focus on improving health systems performance and population health through research, collaboration, and training the next generation of leaders.

Scholarly Research

Dr. Goel’s research focuses on use of data and evidence in health decision-making, the promotion of population health, and the evaluation and implementation of new technologies in health care.
