How do I complete a bursary application?

Note: International graduate students must apply for bursaries through Graduate Studies and Postdoctoral Affairs.

  1. Sign in to Quest.
  2. Select the Financial Aid tile.

  3. Select the Bursary Application link from the left.

  4. The application form will open. Read the instructions and important information carefully.
  5. There are 12 sections but some sections will only appear if they apply to you based on your answers as you complete the application. Some sections are also optional. Make appropriate selections and provide accurate details for each section as required. For help with specific sections use these links:
  6. After completing all appropriate sections, including submitting and confirming your application, you can resubmit your application one additional time if you have made a mistake or need to update information.

Helpful tips

  • Some sections of the form will be different depending on your selections. Be sure to select the correct options and enter details accurately to ensure that the application is correct when you submit.
  • You can clear the application and start over before submitting if you discover that you have made an incorrect selection(s) by selecting the "restart your bursary application" link:

Additional information for some sections

At the top of some sections of the application, you will see a question icon (Question icon).

  • Opening these will provide additional information to help you in correctly completing the section.

Uploading documents to your application

In some cases, you may be asked to upload documents.

  • The maximum file size accepted is 4MB, and accepted file types are BMP, DOC, DOCX, GIF, JPG, JPEG, PDF, PNG, TIFF, TXT.
  • Select the Upload button
  • Select the Choose File button and find the appropriate document on your device

Note: You can scroll down to the bottom of the page to see your uploaded documents and verify that you have uploaded them correctly.

Providing financial information

  • Depending on your selections within the form, you may be asked for financial information for yourself, your parent(s), and/or your spouse (if applicable).
  • You may also be required to provide estimated expenses.
  • Do not add a $ symbol when entering financial details and do not include commas when entering amounts over 1000.00.

Your Enrolment Status

  • Your Academic Career (undergraduate or graduate) should automatically be selected for you, based on your enrolment status.
  • Make appropriate selections based on your enrolment for the term indicated.
  • Note: International students, you are also required to upload a copy of your study permit.

  • Make appropriate selections. (Note: international students should select "No" for the OSAP question.).
  • Additional questions will pop up depending on your selections.

Specific Named Bursary (optional)

This section is optional.

  • Visit the Undergraduate Awards Database to determine if you are eligible for any of these additional bursaries based on specific criteria that applies to you.
  • Accurately enter bursary name(s) separated by a comma (,) then provide details on your eligibility (2500 words max.).

  • Select your marital status and provide additional information as required.

  • When providing financial details, do not add a $ symbol or include commas in amounts over 1000.00.
  • Note: Do not list the savings from your prestudy period income under "Assets > Savings".

  • This section only appears if one of the following scenarios are true:  
    • You have indicated that you are a single (Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident) with a high school completion date within the past four years.
    • You have indicated that you are a single international student.

  • If you are including exceptional expenses, provide accurate dollar values. 
    • Note: Basic living expenses like rent and food should not be included here.

  • Some bursaries are available for students who have participated in relevant extracurricular activities.
  • Complete this section if you have been involved in one or more of the listed extracurriculars and provide a description of your involvement (2500 characters max.).

Complete this section if one of the following scenarios are true:

  • You did not apply for OSAP or other student aid.
  • You have important additional information to provide that may impact the outcome of your application.
    • Do not include details on basic living expenses.

Confirm Application

  1. Read the Declaration of Student statement carefully.
  2. If you are an OSAP recipient, read the For OSAP recipients section.   
  3. Click the check box to confirm that you have read, understand, and agree with the statements.
  4. Select the submit button.
