RoboHub's very own Katja Mombaur and her team of graduate and post-doctoral students are starting their work with REEM-C, the newest humanoid robot at Waterloo. At 165 centimetres tall and 80 kilograms in weight, REEM-C is described as the 'slightly smaller and lighter brother' of TALOS, the RoboHub's full-size humanoid robot.

Professor Moojan Ghafurian touches on a new study about the slow acceptance of robots as individuals experience isolation or see how it is affecting others. Canadians have shown openness to buying and using social robots whether or not they've been positively or negatively affected by the pandemic.

This work was done in collaboration with several RoboHub researchers including Professor Kerstin Dautenhahn, a member of the core RoboHub research team and the Canada 150 Research Chair in Intelligent Robotics

RoboHub Director William Melek and RoboHub collaborator Patricia Nieva have partnered with Facedrive Health to incorporate new algorithms in a new COVID-19 tracing app called TraceSCAN.

The algorithms will be able to provide information about physical distancing, isolation measures that a person who tested positive for COVID has taken, and testing results for individuals all to better forecast the spread of COVID-19 and predict any further outbreaks.

On January 22nd, the RoboHub was highlighted in an episode of "The Age of A.I.", a documentary series covering the ways artificial intelligence, machine learning and neural networks are changing the world. Our state-of-the-art robotics research, testing, and training facility is profiled in Episode 6, titled "Will a robot take my job?" — one of the world’s most Googled questions.
