It's easy to maximize your success, both personally and professionally, if you’re willing to take advantage of the resources offered. For me, that meant using two key features within the AFM program. As a result, I was offered full-time employment even before I graduated.
First, co-operative education. Co-op, by far, helped me secure a job in the field I wanted. It gave me an opportunity to gain experience with clients, in work, and operating as part of a team. All of which will prove beneficial when I return to work in a more senior role after graduation. Co-op really helped jumpstart my career. Not to mention, it helped me develop some incredible personal and professional relationships along the way.
Co-op also provides a fantastic opportunity to work globally. Traveling to new countries teaches valuable lessons. Even trips for pleasure or done through charitable organizations increases your awareness of cultural differences. I’ve been able to use my experiences to better connect and build relationships with clients and co-workers who are from parts of the world that I’ve visited.
Secondly, the professors, staff, and faculty in the SAF have been amazing. Everyone within the School is personally invested in your success; you’re not just another student in the classroom. For me, I found that Professors were keen to get to know me and invest their time in me, if I was willing to do the work, and I was.
There are so many options and resources available within the SAF and the University of Waterloo. You just need to take advantage of what’s in front of you. If you do, it will certainly help to maximize your own personal and professional success.
Come see how the AFM program can shape who you become.
