Hi, I’m Nicole! I’m a graduate student in the Masters of Accounting (MAcc) program at the School of Accounting and Finance (SAF). I recently graduated from the Accounting and Financial Management (AFM) program and had my convocation ceremony just a few weeks ago!
I wrote a blog back in the fall 2020 term entitled “Taking steps to a successful co-op work term,” about an event that I attended in preparation for my first co-op role at KPMG. It’s wild to look back and to see how much has changed since then! My first two co-op terms at KPMG were remote due to COVID-19 and although the learning experiences were still valuable, I couldn’t have been happier when classes and co-ops transitioned back to in-person. I find that going to class not only helps me engage with the material more, engaging with my professors and peers was also an enriching experience.
My co-op work terms and the many interesting AFM courses and electives made my undergrad enjoyable, however some of my most memorable university experiences have been spending time with my friends and loved ones in Waterloo (and wherever else we travelled). By actively getting involved in sports and clubs that I cared about, I met so many friends that shared similar interests with me, which has made my time at Waterloo so memorable.
When reminiscing about my university experience, I will always remember my communities first and foremost. Whether it was my varsity women’s rugby teammates, my UW women’s football teammates, my Cam’s Kids team leads and teammates, or my fellow AFM friends, the people around me at University of Waterloo have made my time here full of memories that I will cherish as I head into the CFE, MAcc graduation, and full-time work!
Thank you SAF for a great 5 years!
