Being a part of this collaborative group with some of the brightest and most dedicated students I've ever met has encouraged me to be a little more ambitious so I could achieve more challenging goals.

Hi everyone, I’m Alina and I’m in

my 1A term of the Accounting and Financial Management (AFM) program. Like a lot of other first-year students, I was nervous about juggling the transition from high school to university. Joining the Fellowship Program has been a big help because it gave me the opportunity to meet a lot of new classmates that I otherwise would never have met because of the pandemic. Not to mention, it has definitely created a positive competitive environment. Being a part of this collaborative group with some of the brightest and most dedicated students I've ever met has encouraged me to be a little more ambitious so I could achieve more challenging goals. Becoming a Fellow also boosted my confidence, and it has been a really new and exciting experience so far!

Last month, I had the chance to meet my Honouree, Krishna, at the Fellowship Program Café. The event was a chill and fun meet and greet with a couple of other Fellows and their Honourees and we got to hear a lot of helpful career information. Krishna is a Math/CPA graduate and he currently works in New York at a company called Discovery. I tend to ask a lot of questions, but he has been nothing but encouraging and helpful. He is definitely very busy with his job, but he makes sure to respond quickly. He also always answers with so much depth and helpful advice. It was really interesting to learn how he achieved his career goals, and the different job experiences he's had. He started in investment banking at Goldman Sachs in Los Angeles. Up to this point, I hadn’t considered the finance career path, but Krishna has inspired me to keep my career goals open to all opportunities. He also put a lot of emphasis on getting involved, as he participated in many extracurriculars, such as hEDGE and the Student Investment Fund (SIF). If I’m being honest, applying to clubs seemed a little intimidating at first, but thanks to Krishna’s tips I feel a lot more encouraged to put myself out there!

With the support of the Fellowship Program, I am feeling a lot more confident and hopeful in my abilities to achieve any goal that I set my mind to. In the months to come, I am eager to see how being a Fellow will affect my future!
