Hello everyone!
This is Matt from the management team of the AFM 334: Winter 2023 Singapore International Study Trip. Today, I would love to tell you more about my role on the management team and give you a little bit of insight into the extensive student-led planning that goes into organizing an educational, productive, and most importantly fun overseas experience.
Responsibilities
My role on the management team is focused on overseeing the day-to-day tasks of our corporate relations team, marketing and culture team, and meals and logistics team. A large part of my role involves facilitating communications between the students and our teaching assistant, Jennie L., and other faculty members. I also help to coordinate collaboration between our teams and ensure that all the students have the resources and information they need to conduct their roles successfully.
One of the biggest challenges for the management team this term was understanding how to support each team effectively. Despite having interdependent roles and responsibilities, each team operates independently and each team has unique needs. To overcome this, the management team created a project management document to track the progress of each task, which is regularly updated through constant communications and check-ins with each team. Moving forward, our team will have more context into what each student is working on and will be better equipped to support the other teams, especially when cross-team collaboration is required.
With many students in our class having never travelled to Southeast Asia before, all of us are working hard to ensure we have unique experiences and get the chance to connect with interesting speakers and industry professionals. Personally, as a huge food enthusiast, I am looking forward most to trying all the great local cuisine!
Overall, I am grateful to the School of Accounting and Finance and our professor, Steve Balaban for providing this student-led international experience, helping us to broaden our perspectives and become globally-minded professionals. If you have not yet, I highly recommend checking out the other teams’ blog posts to learn more about the International Study Course.
Stay tuned because you will be seeing more of us in the months leading up to our journey to Singapore!
