Students finish 2nd in the Canada-wide Eclipse Case Competition
We are a team of Accounting and Financial Management students from the University of Waterloo who had the opportunity to participate in this exciting Eclipse Case Competition open for undergraduate students across Ontario. Our team, consisting of Mohammad, Robert, Bryce, and Nathan, had an incredible time at the competition, and we’re excited to share our experience with you.

During the competition, we worked on two cases, a project management one and a finance one, both of which were challenging but enjoyable. Our task was to analyze and provide recommendations to the German car manufacturer Porsche on how to enhance their integration with Volkswagen in the future. This required us to conduct extensive research and build a professional 7-minute slideshow presentation that we presented in front of judges from multinational corporations across Canada.
In addition to the project management case, we also had a finance case to work on. This case required us to review an asset management firm and develop strategies to improve their process of gaining and maintaining clients. We had to analyze the firm's current practices and come up with innovative solutions to drive growth and increase client retention. It was a challenging case, but it helped us develop our analytical skills and understand the importance of client relationships in the asset management industry.
We were thrilled to learn that our team secured an honourable mention, second place award, in the project management case among the 20 teams competing in this category. It was a proud moment for us, to represent the University of Waterloo among all the other universities.
Participating in the Eclipse Case Competition was an enriching experience that allowed us to apply our classroom learning to real-life situations. It helped us develop problem-solving, teamwork, and presentation skills, which are essential in today's fast-paced business world. We're grateful to have been part of such an incredible team, and to have had the opportunity to converse with other university students from across Canada. We encourage all students to participate in case competitions because they offer a fun and engaging way to learn, and they provide a platform to showcase your skills and talent.
