Applying for a competitive program

The competition is on!

Kyrie standing near the University of Waterloo sign at Seagram DriveOne thing that I had not quite considered while looking into programs was, what if I want to apply for a competitive program? When I hear about people applying for competitive programs I tend to think of the stereotypes: universities only letting in people with a 98% GPA (grade point average) or higher, or you have to have 90’s in every math course you could ever take even if they don’t offer it at your school. When applying for a competitive program, I would keep an open mind and try my best no matter what. To learn more about building a strong university application, I would recommend connecting with the program admissions teams. Speaking with University of Waterloo academic advisors will ensure that you are receiving accurate information. Also, remember, for many competitive programs, offers of admission are not based on academic performance alone. Many programs at the University of Waterloo take extracurricular involvement and supplemental forms into consideration. For example, quite a few programs require you to fill out an AIF (admission information form); the Accounting and Financial Management program also requires you to complete an AFMAA (Accounting and Financial Management Admissions Assessment) which includes an online interview and a trait assessment. Book an appointment with a university academic advisor to learn more about the competitive programs you are interested in so that you know what is expected of you before you apply.
