Dear Grade 11 Anthony,

This is your future-self sending you an email (yes unfortunately we still use email in the future) in order to help guide you in the upcoming few months. SPOILERS AHEAD! I opted to move out and go to the University of Waterloo and I’m currently in my second term in the Accounting and Financial Management program. Recently, I was given the opportunity to help assist high school students who were still pushing to make it into the next round of DECA. This was made possible through my own ambition within the program. This was a great opportunity but surprisingly not a rare one. At first, I thought my time in Waterloo would be relatively insignificant, with only one or two opportunities for me to excel in, but a few weeks into my program I noticed something interesting about the culture. The energy expressed from my fellow first years, older students, professors and staff was energy of a drive to be better. Students would push themselves out of their comfort zones just to join SAF clubs, professors would go the extra step to make sure their content was both relevant and interesting, and administration would give students the opportunity to participate in countless events like DECA LDA. I was lucky enough to be embraced by this culture and it inspired me to be better as well. The School of Accounting and Finance is the place for you should you wish to be better. And trust me, I know more than anyone how much you can improve.

Cheers,

Anthony (the 2020 Version)

P.S. Don’t be scared to ask questions, no one else knows what’s going on as well!
