Congratulations to Alex, a second-year Computing and Financial Management (CFM) student who was named the 2022 Co-op Student of the Year in the Faculty of Mathematics.
Each year, the Centre for Extended Education (CEE), a global leader in co-op and experiential education hosts a Co-op Student of the Year awards ceremony to recognize student excellence and positive impact in the workplace. As the largest co-operative education program of its kind in Canada, it provides students with the opportunity to effect meaningful change and become leaders in the workforce.
During Alex’s first hybrid co-op work term with Mastercard, he launched a ground-breaking call centre savings initiative. For this initiative, he examined and quantified cost reductions from numerous tests focused on call centre improvements and recommended solutions for the client that could save millions of dollars annually. Alex demonstrates what a valuable asset CFM students can be to a technology-driven financial services company like Mastercard. By studying finance at the School of Accounting and Finance and computer science at the David R. Cheriton School of Computer Science he sets himself apart in a competitive workforce.
Alex reflects fondly on his time at Mastercard. “In this role I was able to step up and lead client engagement,” he says. “It was a very valuable opportunity to take that extra step and go above and beyond the role that I was given.”
