The School of Accounting and Finance (SAF) caught up with Andres Perez-Vilarino (MAcc ’19) to discuss his career post-graduation, and to learn how he has leveraged his education and passions to help inform his role.

As a student, in addition to his academics, Andres was involved with extracurricular opportunities, including those that aligned with his passion for politics. Andres attributes his ability to be a well-rounded professional and offer “full-service” quality as manager of financial service organizations (FSO) digital at EY, to his experience at the University of Waterloo. As an auditor with clients in the financial services, he has found a way to connect his various university experiences; his passion for politics has allowed him to see that this can influence finance, and then how finance influences accounting.

When beginning his undergraduate studies in the accounting and financial management program, Andres always wanted to find ways to give back. He became involved with the organization Start Proud, a professional network for the 2SLGBTQ+ community, that plans events, as well as networking and mentorship opportunities for the community. Within this organization, Andres found a way to give back while using a skillset that he is passionate about and leveraging what he knows best – accounting and finance – by serving as the organization’s corporate treasurer.  Andres continues to be a leader and a wonderful inspiration for the next generation of professionals, through his continued involvement with organizations and groups at EY, the community and at SAF.
