Hello fellow Warriors,

Welcome to the Spring 2023 International Study Course. This term, students are divided into two groups heading to Indonesia and Vietnam, and we’re here to introduce ourselves as the corporate relations team for the Indonesia trip! Our team consists of four members: Shaista, Kalash, Amaan and Parvina. The other teams that are helping to ensure an informative and memorable trip are the meals and logistics team and the marketing and culture team. We can’t wait to take you along with us on this trip and share our experiences from meeting new people and learning more about Indonesia.

Let us each introduce ourselves!

My name is Shaista, and I am in my third-year of the Accounting and Financial Management (AFM) program. I am looking forward to going to Indonesia to meet with different companies and professionals and hear about their plans and contributions to Indonesia’s expanding economy. Here is a picture of me warming myself up from the Canadian weather, which I won’t have to worry about in Indonesia.

My name is Amaan, and I am a second-year AFM student. I am excited to try local Indonesian food!

My name is Pravina, and I am in my second-year of AFM. I am looking forward to discovering more about Indonesia's nature and culture along with networking with business professionals from other parts of the world.

My name is Kalash, and I am a second-year AFM student. I am very excited about the trip as it will help me learn a lot about Indonesia’s culture and it will be a great opportunity to meet various industry professionals.

About corporate relations

The responsibility of the corporate relations team is to arrange meetings with business professionals and organizations in Indonesia. We try our best to ensure that the trip provides valuable learning experiences for our class. Our goal is to set up meetings with the companies that our class is most interested in learning from. We will achieve this by finding University of Waterloo alumni who work in those firms or connecting with other Canadians or a connection of ours who can make an introduction to a company.

Our challenges and growth opportunities

The biggest challenge and growth opportunity from being in this team is reaching out and building relationships with people you have zero common ground with. This experience greatly benefits our learning and career journeys, opening us up to a vast array of knowledge, experiences, and perspectives that extend beyond our immediate circles. Being proactive in contacting and engaging with new people exposes us to diverse industries, professions, and insights that can enrich our understanding and expand our learning horizons. Through these interactions, we broaden our perspectives, foster innovative thinking, and experience personal growth. In addition, establishing connections with professionals outside of our existing networks can lead to valuable opportunities such as mentorships, internships, and collaborations, all of which can enhance our career journeys and unlock exciting possibilities. Practicing this skill of reaching out to unfamiliar people unquestionably plays a pivotal role in shaping our continuous learning and professional development, and we are mastering it through participating in the International Study Course.
