We live in a modern world, and arguably our tax frameworks should reflect this reality. But what important implications arise when we undertake this modernization? Following the Department of Finance’s initiatives to update Canada’s General Anti-Avoidance Rule and to make mandatory reporting of certain tax planning strategies robust, the mosaic of frameworks that taxpayers face has changed. The panel will discuss practice considerations, potential spillovers and unintended consequences as informed by other worldwide tax authority initiatives, and related themes.
