Dr. Noorin Manji and Dean Alexie Tcheuyap

Fostering a classroom of mutual respect

At the 2025 Celebration of Arts, Dr. Noorin Manji was honoured with the Arts Award for Excellence in Teaching for her outstanding contributions to pedagogy and mentorship. A professor in the teaching stream at the Stratford School of Interaction Design and Business, Dr. Manji has taught 49 undergraduate courses between 2018 and 2024, consistently earning exceptional evaluations.

'Doctor Manji is noted for her, 'rare ability to teach without seeming to teach,' and her ability to create a classroom atmosphere of mutual respect. Student feedback emphasizes her commitment to connecting with students, and that the essence of what she teaches shines through the way that she teaches. Beyond her classroom excellence, Dr. Manji continues her teaching and mentorship across the institution [University of Waterloo], including serving as a mentor in the Waterloo Women Leading Academia program and participating in Waterloo's Peer Review of Teaching program as a way of supporting colleagues from across the faculties" noted Katherine Acheson, Professor and Associate Dean of Arts, Undergraduate Programs.

Congratulations Noorin!
