What's a minor? What's a diploma?

Minors

Including a minor as part of your degree provides additional knowledge or skills. A minor is a group of 8-10 courses in a specific subject or topic which you would complete along with your degree.

For example, you could earn a:

  • Bachelor of Global Business and Digital Arts with a minor in Environment, Resources and Sustainability
  • Bachelor of Global Business and Digitals with a minor in Computing

Diplomas

Diplomas offer expertise in a particular area.  Courses you take to earn your degree or electives can also often count toward a certificate or diploma that you can earn in addition to your degree.  They require fewer courses than a minor, but the number of courses varies by diploma.

For example, you could earn a:

  • Bachelor of Global Business and Digital Arts and a Diploma in Health Humanities
  • Bachelor of Global Business and Digital Arts and a Diploma in Future Cities

How does it work?

To earn your GBDA degree, you will take 6 elective courses. By planning ahead (as early as first-year) and meeting with your academic advisor you'll create a plan to fulfill the requirements of minors, diplomas, and certificates.

You may take extra classes, but only if those classes will fit into your schedule. You can choose to do additional studies during a Spring term or co-op term at a per-course fee to meet the required number of courses for minors, diplomas and certificates.

There are many ways to explore minors, diplomas, certificates and more. Students are highly recommended to meet with their academic advisor to find the pathway that best suits them.
