Events and Marketing Assistant (Winter 2026 - Work Placement)
Summary:
The Stratford School of Interaction Design and Business is seeking an enthusiastic and adaptable team member to join us in a dynamic role. This 4-month student co-op position (Winter 2026) offers the opportunity to contribute to a variety of initiatives, including event planning, administrative support, digital communications, and the development of recruitment strategies. This position reports to the Recruitment and Admissions Coordinator and supports the Strategic Initiatives Manager and the Recruitment Coordinator in developing marketing content.
Job Responsibilities:
Events
- Provide detailed administrative support during the conception, planning and execution of in-person and virtual events
- Work collaboratively across the entire Stratford team during event planning
- Create content to promote events and student activities, including newsletters, social media posts, etc.
- Provide student perspective on student engagement events and planning
- Independent planning of student engagement events on the Stratford Campus, which includes budget management, planning, execution and post-event summaries
- Serve as the primary point of contact during events, coordinating with staff, volunteers, and vendors to ensure smooth operations
- Oversee the setup of event spaces, including arranging furniture, setting up registration areas, and ensuring all technical equipment is operational
Recruitment
- Coordinate Stratford campus tour activities in partnership with the Recruitment and Admissions Coordinator
- Assist in the development and maintenance of various recruitment and outreach initiatives
- Create and source User-Generated Content for Stratford's social platforms that supports organizational goals
- Collaborate with the Recruitment and Admissions Coordinator to present findings of ongoing research project(s) in a comprehensive and engaging format.
Digital Communications and Marketing
- Organize, source and create digital assets and prepare content for website and social media integration and posting
- Support content development and edits to Stratford School of Interaction Design and Business websites in the Waterloo Content Management System (WCMS)
- Skilled in capturing event photography and creating engaging social media content that highlights the everyday experiences of GBDA students-fostering a sense of community among current students and sparking excitement and interest among prospective students
- Organize digital assets and prepare content for weekly school newsletter
- Assist in creating, sourcing, reviewing, editing, and uploading social content for @uwstratford's social channels
- Help develop and implement marketing campaigns to promote events and recruitment initiatives
Administrative Support
- Administrative duties as required (ie. Front Reception support and Media Services customer service)
Required Skills
- Experience in planning and executing in-person and virtual events is an asset.
- Knowledge of website content management systems/basic, social media and newsletter communication platforms (HTML/CSS, WCMS/Drupal, Facebook, X, Instagram, LinkedIn, MailChimp etc)
- Familiarity with creating communication plans and project management
- Proficiency in graphic design, video production and Adobe Creative programs, Figma

Transportation and Housing
This position is based in the University of Waterloo's Stratford School of Interaction Design and Business in Stratford, Ontario. This position may require work in evenings and weekends. Co-op students will be granted up to 1 work-from-home
day/week dependent on events and responsibilities happening on campus.
Students may purchase a Winter Term Bus pass.
Compensation
$22.32/hr + 4% vacation pay, paid monthly, based on a 35-hour week. Total hours for the position are 560. Work is typically 8:30 am - 4:30 pm, Monday - Friday with an unpaid 1 hour lunch period. Working hours may be adjusted (within reason) if required for bus transportation.
