Media Services at the Stratford School maintains a variety of equipment that is available to loan to students, faculty, and staff.
We have everything you may need for your creative projects for use inside and outside of class. We have a variety of digital SLR cameras, mirrorless and full-frame cameras (Canon T6i, 90D, 70D, and Sony A6500 and A7iii), GoPro Cameras, tripods, lenses, flashes, lighting kits & diffusers, audio recording kits, microphones, MacBook Pros, iPads, chargers, headphones, and more.
How does it all work?
Media Services is located in Room 1013 of the Stratford School. Access to Media Services is included with your tuition to Global Business and Digital Arts or the Master's of Digital Experience Innovation. To borrow any equipment, you must complete the Equipment Loan Agreement. The Equipment Loan Agreement also outlines policies and rules associated with Media Services.
Students are able to check out equipment for one week at a time, and may renew their items up to two additional times. Equipment is checked out at a maximum of one week at a time, and are subject to late fines if they are not returned on time. If you need help with anything, please email mediaservices@uwaterloo.ca

Reserving Your Equipment
Have a big video project coming up? Planning your next photoshoot? Need to book a quiet space to work? Book a reservation!
You can book a reservation to ensure you have access to the gear you need. Reservations can be booked for equipment in advance, and Media Services staff will ensure that your gear is available.
Audio Lab
The Audio Lab is outfitted with an array of high quality hardware and industry standard software, and is especially well suited to recording projects such as voice overs, as well as sound design and soundtrack composition.
It harnesses the power of digital equipment, centered around a Mac system and a Universal Audio Apollo recording interface with a quad-core built-in processor. In addition, the Audio Lab boasts of several pieces of high quality analogue equipment to offer the highest quality possible and to give students an opportunity to work with equipment that they may find in professional studios later in their careers.
Photo Studio
Whether you're taking product photography, need a new headshot, or a professional interview for your next video, the photo studio is the perfect creative space for your project. The photo studio has a black and green backdrop curtain on rails, four different paper backdrop rolls, a 3-point lighting kit, and a turntable for rotating shots.
Project Rooms
Need a study spot? Book a project room!
Project rooms are available on the second and third floors of the Stratford School, and are the best places to build out your next idea, hop onto a call, or have a quiet space to take a break. Project rooms have multiple power outlets, TV's with HDMI cables for a larger display, and whiteboard walls to draft your ideas when inspiration strikes.
Project rooms do not need to be reserved, but you're able to book a reservation on Patron Portal to ensure you will have one available.
3D Printing
Media Services is the home for rapid prototyping equipment at the Stratford School, with two Desktop 3D printers for inexpensive draft prototypes.
Fees are charged to cover the cost of consumables. Printer charges are based on the volume of the printed model, and as such modelling strategies can impact cost and print time. The cost for Makerbot and Ultimaker Desktop Printers is a minimum $5.00 setup fee (includes up to 50 grams of filament), additional filament used will be charged at $.10/gram. All fees are subject to HST.
