Ville Mäkelä, Assistant Professor at Stratford, conducts research three related areas: ubiquitous and mobile computing, virtual reality, and games. Within these areas, he is particularly interested in assessing and further developing methods for user experience evaluation. Accelerated by the pandemic, Ville pivoted his research to address remote user testing, increased flexibility in testing scenarios, and issues of cybersecurity and privacy breaches.

Prior to joining Stratford, Ville was a postdoctoral research fellow at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich (LMU Munich) and the Bundeswehr University Munich. He obtained his Ph.D. from Tampere University, Finland in Human-Computer Interaction in 2018. Ville has published or co-published over 30 peer-reviewed articles and conference papers in high-profile venues and his publications are highly cited.
