How to bike safely in your community

As we all know, cycling is one of the sustainable modes of transportation to reach from Point A to Point B. When you bike, you are reducing emissions and helping improve the quality of air we all breathe. It is also a great way to get your body moving and your mind healthy. Not only that, but you are also saving money because bikes do not need gas to operate.

There are many resources available to support cyclists on campus and in the community. From bicycle-friendly cafes, to trails, to repair stations and more, we’ll share a list of resources to get you started on your cycling journey in Waterloo Region.

Cycling FAQs

Do you have any questions about cycling at the University of Waterloo or around the city? Are you looking for somewhere to rent or buy a bike, have your tires pumped, your gears fixed, or somewhere to store your bike during class? The Sustainability Office has put together a list of the most common questions about cycling on and around campus. Being a sustainable commuter shouldn’t be hard – we are here to make it as easy as possible for you!

Did you know that June is Bike Month? Now that the weather has (finally) warmed up, what better way to get around town than by bike? Not only is biking beneficial to your health, it’s also good for the planet AND your wallet. Commuting to campus on my bike is unglamorous common sense. Parking is free, and it turns the road rage of rush hour driving into joy. Cycling also makes me feel fast and powerful – not everyday feelings for many women. With all of these benefits, it's certainly worth a try!
